Pay Range: The pay for this role is $22.02 per hour

Position Overview

The Skate Guard is responsible for ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of the ice arena. This role involves monitoring public skating sessions, providing customer service, maintaining equipment, and performing general upkeep duties. The Skate Guard must be proactive in ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all guests at Sharks Ice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain rental skates, including boot and blade replacement/repair.
  • Monitor all public session skating events both on and off the ice to ensure the safety of all participants.
  • Assist in the general maintenance and upkeep of the ice arena, including sweeping, cleaning, and other custodial duties.
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times, ensuring all policies are properly implemented.
  • Issue equipment and staff the equipment counters during public skating sessions.
  • Supervise skating activities to ensure safe operations and respond to the needs of user groups.
  • Operate music and public address systems during public sessions and events.
  • Administer first-aid as required.
  • Know and follow emergency procedures, including equipment operation and facility evacuation plans.
  • Ensure the overall cleanliness of Sharks Ice facilities.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of ice skating and skate maintenance.
  • Must be available to work two-thirds of the scheduled events each month, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and efficiently in emergency situations.
  • Basic first-aid training is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand and ice skate for extended periods of time
  • Communicate with a variety of individuals
  • Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)
  • Ability to work in a cold environment for extended periods
