Part Time Sitter information

What is a part time sitter?

Part time sitters are individuals who provide childcare services on a flexible or limited schedule, rather than on a full-time basis. They may watch children for a few hours after school, during weekends, or whenever parents need occasional help. Part time sitters typically handle responsibilities such as supervising play, preparing simple meals, assisting with homework, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the children in their care. Their schedules can vary depending on the family's needs, making this role ideal for those seeking flexible work hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time sitter?

To thrive as a Part Time Sitter, you need basic childcare knowledge, first aid skills, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with safety protocols, child monitoring apps, and, in some cases, CPR certification is beneficial. Reliability, strong communication, and patience are critical soft skills for building trust with both children and parents. These abilities ensure a safe, nurturing environment and peace of mind for families relying on your care.

How does a part time sitter typically coordinate with parents to handle changing schedules and last-minute requests?

Part time sitters often work with families who have variable or unpredictable schedules, requiring flexibility and strong communication skills. It's common for sitters to use shared calendars, messaging apps, or regular check-ins to stay updated on schedule changes and ensure everyone is on the same page. Being proactive about availability and setting clear expectations about response times helps manage last-minute requests smoothly. Collaboration with parents is key to building trust and maintaining a reliable working relationship.

Job description

Pet Care Specialist (Dog Walker & Pet Sitter)

Company Overview

Equipaws Pet Services is a local, woman-owned pet sitting and dog walking company serving Miami pet families since 2011. We help pets and their people live happier, healthier lives through dependable, detail-oriented care and exceptional customer service. Our team takes pride in creating peace of mind for clients while building trusted relationships with the pets we care for every day.

The Opportunity

If you love animals, enjoy working independently, and want a role that keeps you active and engaged, this is an opportunity to build meaningful work around caring for pets in your community. You'll spend your days walking dogs, caring for cats and other household pets, and helping pet parents feel confident their animals are receiving exceptional care while they are away.

This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, organized, comfortable managing their own schedule, and motivated by work that combines responsibility, flexibility, and genuine connection with animals.

What You'll Do
  • Provide reliable, professional pet care services for dogs, cats, and other household pets throughout the Coconut Grove and surrounding areas
  • Turn daily dog walks into safe, engaging experiences while ensuring pets receive exercise, fresh water, treats, meals, or medications as instructed
  • Care for cats through feeding, litter box cleaning, playtime, companionship, and medication support when needed
  • Support vacationing clients by helping maintain their homes through tasks such as mail collection and trash management
  • Document each visit with detailed journals and photos so pet parents stay informed and connected to their pets
  • Build trusted relationships with clients through excellent communication, professionalism, and consistency
  • Manage routes efficiently while keeping travel time between visits limited whenever possible
What Success Looks Like

In the first 3 - 6 months, successful Pet Care Specialists will:

  • Earn strong client trust through reliable, compassionate care and consistent communication
  • Maintain high-quality visit reports and photo updates that create peace of mind for pet parents
  • Safely manage visits with dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments
  • Build strong time-management habits while independently handling scheduled visits across the service area
  • Contribute to high client satisfaction and repeat business by delivering dependable, detail-oriented service
What We're Looking For
  • Strong comfort level handling dogs of different sizes and breeds
  • Dependable, trustworthy, and highly organized with strong time-management skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently and traveling throughout the local area
  • Able to work outdoors in Miami weather conditions year-round, including rain and summer heat
  • Weekend and holiday availability required
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a valid driver's license, insured vehicle, smartphone, and email access
  • Ability to pass a background check and be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Previous pet care, animal handling, veterinary, kennel, rescue, or customer service experience is strongly preferred
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive pay with workload flexibility
  • 100% of tips retained by employees
  • Bonus pay for holidays
  • W-2 employee status with direct deposit and employer-paid payroll taxes
  • Liability insurance, bonding, and workers' compensation coverage provided
  • Mobile data reimbursement
  • Paid Pet CPR and First Aid training
  • Ongoing training in leash walking, behavior, and pet care best practices
  • Company-provided uniforms, tools, treats, and supplies
  • Work within approximately a 7-mile radius of your home
  • Employee discounts on personal pet care services
  • Team contests, prizes, social events, and advancement opportunities
Work Location / Schedule
  • Service areas include Coconut Grove and surrounding Miami neighborhoods
  • Part-time to full-time opportunities available
  • Typical pet sitting shifts include:
  • Morning visits: 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM (can be 1 or 2 visits)
  • Evening visits: 5:00 PM - 10:30 PM
  • Weekends
  • Visits occur Monday through Sunday, including weekends and holidays
  • Minimum twelve-month commitment preferred
