What is a part time side gig?

Part time side gigs are flexible jobs or tasks that individuals take on in addition to their main employment, typically to earn extra income or gain new skills. These gigs can range from freelance work, rideshare driving, tutoring, online surveys, to delivery services, and usually require a commitment of a few hours per week. They are popular among students, professionals, and anyone looking to supplement their earnings without interfering with their primary job. Part time side gigs often offer flexible schedules and can be done on evenings or weekends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a part time side gig, and why are they important?

To thrive in a part-time side gig, you generally need time management, basic business acumen, and the relevant skills for the specific gig (such as writing, driving, or tutoring). Familiarity with digital platforms, mobile apps, or online marketplaces related to your gig is often required. Reliability, strong communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills to stand out and build trust with clients or employers. These skills and qualities are important to efficiently balance multiple commitments and achieve consistent results in flexible, often self-directed roles.

What are some common challenges faced in part time side gigs, and how can I manage them effectively?

Balancing a part-time side gig with other commitments—such as a full-time job, studies, or family—can be challenging. Time management is crucial, as side gigs often require flexibility and self-discipline to meet deadlines or client expectations. Additionally, side gig workers may face inconsistent workloads or fluctuating income, making budgeting important. To manage these challenges, it's helpful to maintain a clear schedule, set realistic goals, and communicate proactively with clients or employers.

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
