Job description

NOTE: All bus driver positions start out as a substitute position until a minimum evaluation period is met. Once the evaluation requirement is fulfilled, substitute bus drivers are recommended for full-time benefited positions when available. Substitute bus driver positions are considered part-time and work on an as-needed basis.


Substitute Driver - Daily Rate of Pay
$95/day ~ 5 hours/day

School Bus Drivers are directly responsible to the Director of Transportation.
 

  • Successfully complete school bus training as prescribed by the State and local Board of Education.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and its special equipment.
  • Maintain student passenger discipline and the orderly conduct of all student passengers. 
  • Report all student passenger misbehavior to the proper school official no later than the day following the misbehavior by the student passenger.
  • Report to the proper school official an unsafe act or condition which requires the attention of any person other than the driver.
  • Operate the vehicle in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia and the policies of the State and the Henry County Board of Education.
  • Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required by the local school system.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with school staff, students and the public.
  • Complete legible and accurate required reports in the prescribed manner and on a timely basis.
  • Clean and service the vehicle to the extent prescribed by the Director of Transportation.
  • Maintain routes and schedules as planned by the Director of Transportation and Transportation Supervisor.
  • Report hazards along the existing route to the Director of Transportation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Commercial Driver's License with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements required at the time of employment.
  • Ability to pass annual physical required. 
  • Ability to work well with staff, students, and the community.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators..
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. 
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 40 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks. 

          
 


NOTE;  If you do not hold a current CDL with (P) Passenger and (S) School Bus Endorsements, training will be provided.  You must pass the written CDL Test and obtain a Bus Permit before the training can be completed.  Written test are administered at any Georgia Department of Driver Services location.  A notarized  CDL Application Fee Exemption Certification Form may be obtained from the Henry County Transportation Department before taking the test.
