Description:

The Part-Time Sewing Instructor leads engaging, skill-based workshops and classes focused on garment sewing, alterations, and creative projects. This role is responsible for both instruction and the development of new workshops that respond to community interest and support lifelong learning.


This position supports a variety of programs, including workshops, recurring classes, open sew, and special events. The instructor creates a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants build confidence, technical skills, and creative expression.


Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Facilitation

  • Teach sewing classes and workshops for beginner to intermediate participants
  • Provide instruction in machine operation, garment construction, alterations, and use of commercial patterns
  • Support open sew sessions and special events as needed
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse skill levels, learning styles, and language needs
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment

Workshop Development

  • Design and develop new workshops based on participant interest and organizational goals
  • Create lesson plans, supply lists, and participant handouts
  • Continuously refine workshops based on feedback and participation
  • Maintain flexibility to adjust offerings and respond to program needs

Classroom & Studio Management

  • Prepare materials and ensure proper classroom setup and cleanup
  • Maintain and monitor sewing machines and equipment (domestic and industrial, as applicable)

Student & Volunteer Engagement
