  • Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
  • Type of Employment: Part -Time, 320 hours per week.
  • Period of Performance: 01 November 2026 – 31 October 2030.
  • Total Compensation: $22.70 per hour.
  • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, occurring on day one.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours

The Pharmacy Technician will normally work seven (7) hours per week, from Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), between the hours of 6:00 am and 1:30 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. The Pharmacy Technician will not work more than 35 hours a week.

Summary of Duties

The Pharmacy Technician will provide services such as reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selecting and retrieving medications of the correct strength and dosage form prescribed, transcribing prescription data to labels using computer systems, prepare prescriptions for review by a pharmacist prior to dispensing, giving pertinent patient instructions when appropriate, and completing stock medication orders as instructed by the pharmacist.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed a state-approved training program for Pharmacy Technicians with a satisfactorily completed internship.
  • Must have a Pharmacy Technician license from the state of West Virginia.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of Pharmacy Technician experience.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Complete and maintain competency as indicated by the ability to complete the Pharmacy.
  • Experience working in a correctional environment is preferred but not required.

Attire

The Pharmacy Technician must wear appropriate and professional attire at all times. The Pharmacy Technician is prohibited from wearing khaki or green clothing of any type, as this is the color clothing the inmate population wears.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the staff pharmacist in ordering, stocking, storing, and dispensing of prescription and non-prescription medications while demonstrating knowledge of the budgetary guidelines and BOP Formulary constraints.
  • Maintain pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion consistent with departmental safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist the pharmacist in maintaining stock of up-to-date medications (checking for outdates per policy) in the main pharmacy, satellite camp, crash carts, emergency bags, and Automated Dispensing Systems.
  • Assist the Pharmacist with maintaining stock of forms as needed and prepare Pill Line
  • Medication cards and unit dose medications for Pyxis.
  • Competency Module while maintaining knowledge of BOP Formulary and any changes to this document.
  • Maintain the narcotics count and the needle and syringe inventories.
  • Maintain and re-stock adequate supplies for the Night Stock cabinet and perform audits of the Night Stock or Automated Dispensing System.
  • Possess a working knowledge and maintain technical computer skills pertaining to pharmacy issues.
  • Must participate in Improving Organizational Performance Data and Quality Assurance Activities as directed by the Pharmacist or HSA.

Perform minor clerical duties, such as use of BOP electronic medical record, computer documentation and scheduling, scanning documents, filing, typing, call-outs, institutional memorandums, answering phones, scheduling patients, and maintaining stock records.
