How much do part time security screener jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 26, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time security screener in the United States is $20.45, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.62 and $24.28 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are part time security screeners?

Part time security screeners are professionals who work limited hours to inspect people, luggage, and cargo for prohibited or dangerous items at locations such as airports, government buildings, or private facilities. They operate screening equipment like metal detectors and X-ray machines, and may perform physical searches when necessary. Their role is vital to maintaining safety and security, and they often interact with the public while following strict protocols and regulations. Part time positions offer flexible scheduling, making them suitable for students or those seeking supplemental income.

How to become an airport security screener?

To become an airport security screener, applicants typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, pass a background check, and complete security training provided by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Certification is required, and screeners must pass a proficiency test before starting work. The job often requires working in shifts, including nights and weekends.

What is the easiest security job to get?

A security guard or security screener position is generally considered one of the easiest security jobs to obtain, often requiring minimal experience and basic training. These roles typically involve entry-level responsibilities, and some employers provide on-the-job training; certifications like a security license may be required depending on the location.

What are some typical challenges faced by part-time security screeners, and how can they be managed?

Part-time security screeners often encounter challenges such as maintaining vigilance during repetitive screening tasks, adapting to variable shift schedules, and handling high-pressure situations during busy periods. To manage these challenges, screeners benefit from staying alert through regular short breaks, focusing on teamwork for support, and adhering closely to established protocols. Training and ongoing communication with supervisors can also help screeners respond effectively to unexpected situations and maintain a high standard of security.

What is the difference between Part Time Security Screener vs Part Time Security Guard?

AspectPart Time Security ScreenerPart Time Security Guard
CredentialsSecurity license, background checkSecurity license, background check
Work EnvironmentScreening areas, security checkpointsPatrols, access points, premises
Employer & IndustryHospitals, airports, eventsCommercial buildings, retail, events
Primary DutiesScreen visitors, verify IDsPatrol, monitor premises, respond to incidents

While both roles require security licensing and involve maintaining safety, Part Time Security Screeners focus on visitor screening and access control, whereas Part Time Security Guards provide physical security through patrols and incident response. The roles often overlap but serve different functions within security operations.

What is the average hourly rate for security?

The average hourly rate for a part-time security screener typically ranges from $12 to $20 per hour, depending on location, experience, and employer. Entry-level positions may pay closer to the lower end, while those with specialized skills or certifications can earn higher wages.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Security Screener, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Security Screener, you need attention to detail, situational awareness, and a high school diploma or equivalent, often with successful completion of background checks. Familiarity with X-ray machines, metal detectors, and security scanning systems, as well as relevant certifications such as TSA or airport security training, is typically required. Excellent communication, integrity, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are crucial soft skills for this role. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure safety, maintain regulatory compliance, and provide a secure environment for the public.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Part time security screeners typically do not earn $2000 a day, as their pay is usually hourly or per shift and is significantly lower. High-paying jobs that can reach this level often involve specialized skills, high-risk environments, or executive roles, but such earnings are uncommon for part-time security positions.
