JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Coping and Regulation of Environment Stress (CaRES) Lab, directed by Dr. Martha Wadsworth in the College of Liberal Arts at Penn State University, invites applications for multiple Part Time Child Participant Assessors in the Harrisburg/Hershey, PA area.
The Part Time Child Participant Assessors will have the opportunity to work on a NIMH-funded study, investigating the efficacy of the Building a Strong Identity and Coping Skills (BaSICS) program, which is a group-based, team-building coping and empowerment intervention developed specifically to meet the needs of youth growing up in poverty. This position will mainly be responsible for completing assessments with child participants, aged 11-14 within the Harrisburg and Hershey, PA areas.
This position is responsible for working directly with children and their families to collect data. Key duties include preparing spaces for assessments, working with children and their families to review consent documents, working directly with children to collect various types of data, and maintain detailed records of data collection. The Child Participant Assessor plays a vital role in working with children and their families during the assessment process.
Primary Duties and Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up interview spaces for assessments
  • Complete consent and assent documentation with parents and children
  • Conduct study assessment interviews with youth while following a strict assessment protocol
  • Record youth responses during interviews via electronic and written data collection methods
  • Oversee the collection of biological (saliva) data samples with participants
  • Maintain detailed documentation of data collection
  • General assessment related tasks

Education and Experience:
  • The successful candidates for this position will have an interest in or experience with social science research or professional experience working with children and families within the community
  • Exemplary organizational and writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially for working with youth
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately

Commitment and Duration
  • Assessments will be conducted in person in the Harrisburg and Hershey, PA areas
  • Part time (~10 hours per week on an as needed basis)
  • Shifts from 3-8 PM various days of the week
  • This position requires a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends, primarily to accommodate the availability of participating families.
