Job description

Part-Time Seamstress/Tailor
Location: New Providence, NJ
Schedule: 16-24 hours per week
Pay Range: $21.00-$24.00 per hour, based on experience

Tom James Custom Clothing is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Part-Time Seamstress/Tailor to join our sales office in New Providence, New Jersey. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in garment alterations, takes pride in exceptional craftsmanship, and is committed to delivering superior-quality tailored clothing and outstanding client service.

This position requires the ability to work efficiently in a office environment while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and attention to detail.

Position Summary

The Seamstress/Tailor performs alterations on high-end custom garments for our clients and ensures all work is completed professionally, accurately, and on schedule. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of garment construction, tailoring techniques, and fabric characteristics for both men's and women's apparel.

Essential Responsibilities

Perform alterations on men's and women's garments, including but not limited to:

  • Shortening and lengthening sleeves
  • Tapering garment sides
  • Lowering collars
  • Taking in or letting out trouser waists
  • Adjusting seat and rise in trousers
  • Shortening and lengthening trouser hems
  • Tapering trouser thighs and leg openings
  • Ensuring proper garment fit and sizing
  • Pressing finished garments and preparing them for client delivery
  • Removing loose threads and performing final quality inspections
  • Maintaining accurate daily alteration and production records
  • Completing all alterations within established timelines to meet client delivery dates
  • Interacting professionally with clients and team members
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Completing all required documentation related to daily assignments
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of tailoring experience in a retail, custom clothing, or customer-service environment
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction and alteration techniques for men's and women's apparel
  • Ability to perform high-quality alterations by hand and machine
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently
