The Role

We are looking for a Veterinary Research Mentor to support high-achieving pre-vet students through the development and completion of original literature-based research projects in veterinary medicine, animal science, and related disciplines. If you hold a DVM, PhD, or both and are passionate about mentorship, this role is an excellent fit. This is a part-time, remote, 1099 contract role that can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Mentor undergraduate students through the full research process, from topic selection and literature review to manuscript development and final deliverables
  • Guide students in developing feasible, high-quality research questions aligned with their academic and career goals
  • Provide structured feedback on research plans, literature synthesis, and written research drafts
  • Help students understand research standards and discipline-specific expectations
  • Support students pursuing outcomes such as academic papers, posters, or journal submissions, depending on program scope
  • Track progress against defined milestones and timelines to ensure consistent forward momentum
Qualifications
  • DVM, PhD, or both in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience conducting academic or veterinary research
  • Strong background in literature review, research methodology, and scientific writing
  • Experience mentoring students or trainees
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong planning, organization, and project management skills
  • A passion for mentorship and student development
