Essential Job Duties
The Department of Forest Biomaterials is seeking an Accounting Technician to provide financial, accounting, and business support that helps keep departmental operations running smoothly. Reporting to the Department Business Officer, this role partners closely with faculty, staff, the College Business Office, the College Post-Award Office, and other campus colleagues to support accurate financial management, timely processing of transactions, and effective stewardship of multiple funding sources.
In this role, you'll work in a dynamic, detail-oriented environment where your work directly supports research, teaching, and outreach activities across the department. You'll balance routine financial processes with time-sensitive needs, collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, and help ensure that financial operations stay accurate, organized, and on track with established guidelines and deadlines.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Monitor account activity across multiple funding sources, complete monthly reconciliations, initiate journal vouchers (JVs) and interdepartmental transactions (IDTs), and support budget reporting and forecasting needs.
  • Reconcile procurement card (Pcard) transactions, manage monthly approval workflows, support compliance with spending guidelines, and coordinate with cardholders and Pcard administration to resolve issues.
  • Review and process MarketPlace requisitions, travel authorizations, and reimbursements, ensuring alignment with procurement and travel policies and timely processing.
  • Initiate payable actions, including vendor onboarding, campus vouchers, honorariums, invoice processing, and purchase order invoice uploads.
  • Reconcile workshop registration receipts and expenses, support timely closeout processes, and communicate completion to departmental leadership.
  • Assist faculty and staff with submitting agreements for review and approval.
  • Respond to questions related to financial and business processes, working collaboratively with college and campus partners to resolve issues.
  • Contribute to the development, refinement, and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) that support consistency and efficiency.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial reconciliation practices with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Familiarity with financial and business systems used within a university or similarly complex organization.
  • Working knowledge of financial and travel management systems, such as PeopleSoft or comparable software.
  • Ability to support accounts payable, travel processing, and vendor maintenance activities in compliance with established procedures.
  • Skilled use of Google Workspace applications, including Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Sheets, or similar office productivity software.
