Job Summary:

As a Registered Nurse in our Behavioral Health Department, you'll provide comprehensive emotional and physical care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within our inpatient setting. You'll work as part of a strong interdisciplinary team, delivering specialized, compassionate patient care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation) specifically tailored for a mental health environment.

You'll also play a key role in triaging mental health patients in collaboration with the PSA and Charge RN, facilitating their flow through the ED, and taking the lead in Code Orange situations, including de-escalation and communicating with nursing supervisors regarding unit acuity levels. Your ability to effectively communicate with patients and other care team members will be essential in achieving optimal patient outcomes while upholding professional nursing standards. You'll establish nursing priorities based on patient needs, continuously assess conditions, and revise care plans accordingly.

Qualifications:ย 

  • Valid New York State (NYS) RN License

  • 1 year of medical/surgical experience preferred

  • Crisis Intervention Training within the hospital orientation period.

  • Basic computer knowledge.

  • Proficient communication skills and the ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a variety of personalities.

  • Ability to sustain attention to detail and accuracy in monitoring and documenting information.

  • Ability to implement and support procedures and programs pertaining to patient safety and security.

  • Ability to acknowledge changes in a patient's condition or behavior and promptly report these changes to appropriate licensed nursing personnel.

  • Ability to perform various intervention tasks assigned by the charge nurse.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of all patient information.

  • Commitment to maintaining quality assurance and compliance with all regulatory agencies.

  • Ability to perform physical requirements including bending, lifting, standing, and walking.
