General Summary
Odessa College, a nationally recognized community college known for student success, seeks qualified, student-centered professionals to serve as Adjunct Faculty in Drama and Theatre. This part-time faculty position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction that supports student achievement, engagement, and success in theatre arts. Courses may include acting, theatre appreciation, introduction to theatre, stage movement, voice and diction, or other drama-related disciplines based on departmental needs and the successful candidate's qualifications.
Adjunct faculty are expected to create an inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and artistic expression while supporting the mission and values of Odessa College. Central to this role is ensuring that all students regardless of course delivery method receive robust, experiential learning opportunities that bridge theory and practice.
Specific Position Duties
  • Teach assigned drama/theatre courses in accordance with approved course outcomes and departmental standards.
  • Design and facilitate immersive, "hands-on" learning experiences, ensuring that course instruction heavily integrates student participation in theatre productions, set creation, or mini-plays.
  • Collaborate dynamically with other department faculty and institutional programs to design, align, and cross-promote programming each term that expands production and performance opportunities for students.
  • Develop and deliver engaging instruction using effective teaching strategies and appropriate instructional technologies, specifically adapting practical production and performance experiences for both in-person and online learning environments.
  • Evaluate student performance in a fair, timely, and consistent manner.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance and academic records.
  • Communicate regularly with students and respond promptly to student inquiries.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and training as appropriate for adjunct faculty.
  • Maintain current knowledge of theatre arts, acting techniques, set design/construction, and instructional best practices.
  • Ability to direct, mentor, and engage students effectively through virtual, hybrid, and face-to-face theatrical platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across faculty teams to co-create and execute terminal programming (such as seasonal events, haunted houses, or play festivals).
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Comply with all Odessa College policies, procedures, and accreditation standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Drama or Theatre, including at least 6 graduate semester hours in Acting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary acting methods, theatre arts, acting principles, and practical stage production.
