Position Information
Job Title Part-Time Retail Sales Associate Department Shop 1832 Position Summary
Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking a Casual Retail Sales Associate to work in our Shop 1832. The College is seeking a customer service-oriented person to assist with merchandising, operating our point-of-sale system, and maintaining a clean, organized and welcoming retail environment.
This is a part-time, non-benefited position reporting to the Shop 1832 Store Manager.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service, assisting with product questions, sizing, and merchandise selection
  • Operate the point-of-sale system to accurately process sales, payments, returns, and exchanges
  • Receive, tag, restock, and maintain visually appealing and organized merchandise displays
  • Support store operations, including seasonal promotions, special events, pop-up retail opportunities, and high-traffic periods
  • Maintain store cleanliness and follow established procedures and College policies
  • Work independently, using good judgment to address routine customer and store needs while seeking assistance when appropriate
  • Assist with social media content creation, including Instagram, TikTok, and Reels, as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrate strong customer service, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with various groups of customers and coworkers
  • Maintain strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to maintain a clean and visually appealing sales floor
  • Operate or learn point-of-sale systems and accurately process transactions
  • Work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment, including flexible hours and reliable attendance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous retail or customer service experience, including familiarity with point-of-sale systems
  • Basic knowledge of retail operations, merchandise presentation, and store organization
  • Familiarity with Gettysburg College, its traditions, and campus community, as well as experience with social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, including content creation
