Job Title: Retail Cashier Associate (Seasonal, Part-Time)

Location: San Jose, CA (on-site)

Compensation: $18.45 - $24.00 hourly, based on experience and qualifications; non-exempt position

We specialize in hardware, landscaping materials, plants, and garden supplies. We pride ourselves on offering excellent customer service and knowledgeable support for all home improvement and landscaping needs.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused seasonal, part time cashier to join our team! As the first and last point of contact for our customers, the cashier plays a key role in delivering a positive shopping experience. If you enjoy helping people and working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, we want to meet you!

Major Responsibilities:

The major responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensure each customer receives outstanding service.
  • Greet customers as they enter the store.
  • Give 100% attention to the customer you are serving and always thank each customer for their business.
  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of every position.
  • Answer phone calls with proper greeting.
  • Tactfully, professionally and pleasantly deal with customers.
  • Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Accurately and efficiently ring on registers (Point of Sale Terminals) and maintain all cash at registers.
  • Must scan every item at the point of sale 100% of the time no exceptions.
  • Maintain orderly appearance of register area and supplies stocked.
  • Call for backup cashiers when needed.
  • Solicit customers to open an Ace Rewards card.
  • Issuing receipts, refunds, credits or change due to customers by following policy and procedures.
  • Responsive of safety issues.
  • Conscious of shoplifting activity.
  • Take returns to appropriate departments before each shift is over.
  • Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, vouchers, or automatic debits.
  • Process sales or other transactions.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers. Issue money, credit, or vouchers.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the store or the management team.

Requirements:

  • Ability to report to all scheduled shifts on time and ready to work each workday.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well with team.
  • Basic math skills for register.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately process transactions.
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and occasionally lift/move items up to 30 lbs.
  • Prior cashier, retail or customer service experience preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Epicor Propello or related POS preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus but not required.
