Job description

POSITION SUMMARY 

Unique Interpreters, LLC is seeking qualified Spanish-English Interpreters/Translators to provide remote, on-demand interpretation and document translation support for client engagements involving sensitive, trauma-informed conversations. Interpreters will support phone-based interpretation sessions, ensuring accurate, culturally sensitive, and confidential communication between English and Spanish speaking parties. This is a part-time, remote, independent contractor position ideal for experienced interpreters seeking flexible, meaningful work. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide accurate, real-time consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation during phone sessions between English and Spanish speaking parties. 
  • Translate written documents, forms, and correspondence between English and Spanish as needed. 
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client, case, and personal information encountered during sessions. 
  • Interpret in a neutral, professional, and trauma-informed manner, particularly during sensitive conversations involving families and children. 
  • Accurately convey tone, intent, and cultural context without adding, omitting, or altering content. 
  • Maintain reliable availability for scheduled and on-demand interpretation sessions. 
  • Document session details (date, time, duration) for accurate billing and quality tracking. 
  • Communicate promptly with Unique Interpreters, LLC scheduling staff regarding availability, conflicts, or technical issues. 
  • Adhere to professional interpreter ethics standards, including accuracy, impartiality, and confidentiality. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English (verbal and written). 
  • Minimum of one year of professional interpretation and/or translation experience. 
  • Current interpreter certification required — one of the following: Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI), Certified Court Interpreter, National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI), Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI), or equivalent state/federal interpreter certification. 
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection, computer/smartphone, and headset suitable for remote interpretation. 
  • Ability to pass a background screening as required by client contracts. 
  • Strong professional communication skills and ability to maintain composure during emotionally sensitive conversations. 
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible, part-time schedule. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Prior experience interpreting in social services, child welfare, immigration, healthcare, or legal settings. 
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including families and minors. 
  • Availability for both scheduled sessions and short notice on-demand requests. 
  • Languages of particular value: English, Spanish, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Mandarin Chinese, Russian/Croatian. 

COMPENSATION & STRUCTURE 

  • 10 – 20 hours per week. Provide interpretation services between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm Eastern standard time. 
  • Flexible, part-time hours; no minimum weekly hour commitment required, though consistent availability is preferred. 
  • Compensated $0.50 - $0.75 per minute of billable interpretation/translation time, based on certification level and experience. 
  • Interpreters are responsible for their own equipment, internet connectivity, and applicable taxes as an independent contractor (1099).
