Job Summary:
Hawai`i Pacific University, College of Health and Society is seeking candidates who are licensed physical therapists for adjunct faculty positions for its hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. These positions will start as early as August 25, 2025 and will be ongoing as needs arise. Individuals with expertise across all areas of physical therapist practice areas will be considered
Location: This two-year DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities which allows adjunct faculty members to live remote to the HPU campus. However, DPT adjunct faculty members must be able to travel and stay in Honolulu during the duration of the labs assigned. On-site labs are blocked by course and range from 3-6 days in length. Adjunct faculty who support more than one lab may be required to be on-site for up to 2-weeks at a time. Priority will be given to qualified candidates who live in Hawaii. Competitive compensation is provided for course-based appointments. All approved travel related expenses will be covered by HPU in accordance with HPU's Travel Policy.
Compensation:
$1,500 per credit or $4,500 per 3-credit course.
This is a part-time exempt Adjunct Instructor position, with staffing subject to course enrollment per term. Open to in-person and remote applicants, with a preference for in-person Instructors.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Hawaii or the state of residence.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Earned Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (or tDPT) or terminal doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc, etc) from an accredited university.
  • Specialist Certification.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Other Qualifications:
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship and relocation allowance is not available for this position.
  • Must meet training and background check qualifications and comply with the Protection of Minors policy.
  • Upon hire, candidate must have reliable transportation to facilitate travel to HPU worksites and other locations as required by the position. This includes access to an airport with regular flights to Honolulu, if applicable.
  • Able to teach classes scheduled during days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Successful candidate will be able to work in an environment that utilize excellent time and stress management skills.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:
The faculty member holds an adjunct appointment and has responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. This individual demonstrates competence in teaching and implementing strategies for student success.
1. Teaching is the primary responsibility of Adjunct Faculty. (95%)
The functions of Adjunct Faculty may include some or all of the following depending on the terms of the appointment:
  • Assist the primary and/or secondary course instructor in all course related activities as directed by the primary and/or secondary course instructor.
  • Develop a syllabus of course activities that meet the requirements of the course description or program chair, establishes appropriate student learning outcomes, and provides for appropriate class activities throughout the semester.
  • Plan and deliver individual classes via distance education or face to face lab instruction that conform to the syllabus and other requirements of the University.
  • Demonstrate a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively in the context of an integrated education.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records on student participation and performance, use appropriate measures and evaluate student performance on the basis of established student learning outcomes, provide timely feedback to students and assign grades that are an accurate and fair evaluation of student work.
  • Submit grades and any other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Administer student evaluations of faculty at the end of each course, review evaluation summaries, and meet with the department chair and dean to review.
  • Post and maintain regular office hours at times reasonably convenient to students.
  • Meet deadlines and follow directions of the primary course instructor/program/department chair, associate dean or dean of the college.
  • Promote student success by following attendance related requirements found in theAcademic Affairs Policies and Procedures Manual.

2.Performs other related duties as assigned (5%)
  • Actively participates as an effective member of the team by completing assigned duties, accepting additional assignments or reassignments.
