The Pathology Department at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Technologist
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Technologist - Per Diem performs microbiological, molecular biological and immunological tests on body specimens to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. The incumbent facilitates quality assurance and instrument maintenance and collaborates with clinical investigators.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Verifies identification of specimen with physicians' orders, prepares specimens for testing, and handles all specimens in a safe and careful manner.
2. Analyzes results of testing and interprets abnormal or unusual results. Researches and prepares all pertinent patient data and refers all data and testing results to pathologists for evaluation and sign-out.
3. Calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and maintains inventory of relevant forms and materials.
4. Recognizes test inconsistencies and takes appropriate corrective action while supporting laboratory co-workers in resolution of similar problems.
5. Administers quality-control tests, according to procedure, and maintains appropriate data recording.
6. Assists with orienting and training employees on laboratory techniques and operations.
7. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field required
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required
Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida Medical Technologist license required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholder

Department Specific Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in biological, chemical and/or medical sciences from an accredited college or university or an equivalent to the above degree.
Certification and Licensing:
Licensed by the State of Florida as a Clinical Cytogenetics Technologist and/or Molecular Technologist.
Certified by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG) and/or Molecular technologist is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a technologist in Cytogenetics.
