What is a Part Time Python job?

A Part Time Python job involves working on Python-based tasks or projects for a limited number of hours per week, rather than full-time employment. These roles can include web development, data analysis, automation, scripting, or machine learning. Part-time Python jobs are ideal for students, freelancers, or professionals looking to supplement their income while maintaining flexibility. Opportunities can be found in various industries, including tech, finance, and healthcare.

What jobs can I get with only Python?

With Python skills, you can pursue roles such as Python developer, data analyst, automation engineer, or backend programmer. These jobs often require knowledge of frameworks like Django or Flask, and familiarity with version control tools like Git.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Part Time Python position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Python developer, you should have a solid understanding of Python programming, experience with relevant frameworks (such as Django or Flask), and a background in software development or computer science. Familiarity with code versioning tools like Git, cloud platforms, and databases, as well as participation in coding bootcamps or holding certifications (like Python Institute PCEP/PCAP), is often beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and the ability to work independently or remotely are key soft skills for part-time positions. These abilities ensure you can contribute effectively within limited hours, collaborate with diverse teams, and consistently deliver high-quality code.

Is 30 too old to learn Python?

There is no age limit to learning Python or pursuing a part-time programming role. Many employers value skills and experience over age, and Python is accessible to beginners of all ages with consistent practice and learning resources.

Are Python still in demand in 2026?

Python remains a highly in-demand skill for many roles, including part-time programming positions, due to its versatility in data analysis, automation, and web development. The language's widespread use across industries ensures continued job opportunities, especially for those with knowledge of frameworks like Django or data libraries such as Pandas. Staying updated with related tools and certifications can enhance employability in this field.

Will AI replace Python coders?

AI is unlikely to fully replace Python coders, as human expertise is essential for designing, debugging, and maintaining complex software. Python developers will continue to be needed to create and improve AI tools, applications, and systems that require critical thinking and creativity. Staying updated with new frameworks and tools can help Python programmers remain valuable in an evolving tech landscape.

What does a typical work schedule look like for a Part Time Python developer and how flexible is the role?

Part Time Python developer roles are often designed with flexibility in mind, accommodating students, freelancers, or professionals seeking supplementary income. Work hours can range from a few hours per day to certain days of the week, and many positions offer remote or hybrid options. While some employers may set core hours for team meetings or project check-ins, the bulk of the coding work can usually be completed on your own schedule. This flexibility allows you to balance other commitments while gaining valuable industry experience and building your programming portfolio.

Job description

About Matroid

With the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, more and more expert knowledge is required to use cutting-edge AI techniques to solve real-world problems. At Matroid, we're building an intuitive product that allows anyone to train and deploy computer vision models without needing to know how to write a line of code.

Founded in 2016 by a Stanford professor, Matroid has raised $33.5 million from NEA, Energize Ventures, and Intel Capital and has a broad range of customers and partners in manufacturing, industrial IoT, and security.

We're looking for a Vision Application Technician to operate as the technical expert on end-to-end image formation and camera system design - helping our customers and engineering teams achieve optimal image quality and system performance for visual inspection use cases. You'll balance time between hands-on lab experimentation and field deployments at customer sites, ensuring reliable and high-quality camera integrations across diverse environments.

You'll be working at our new office in downtown Palo Alto, just a five-minute walk from the Caltrain station.

What you'll be doing
  • Research and evaluate novel image formation systems to support advanced deep learning visual inspection use cases.
  • Collaborate with sales and engineering teams to understand imaging requirements, and evaluate and specify optimal image formation systems - including camera, lens, lighting, and supporting hardware - for various visual inspection use cases.
  • Experiment with and fine-tune these systems to optimize image and video quality.
  • Configure and troubleshoot switches, routers, and other network components used in image acquisition pipelines.
  • Assist with on-site installations, camera deployments, and end-to-end hardware bring-up, traveling frequently (50%-100%) to support deployments and provide in-person customer assistance.
  • Provide on-call, on-site, and remote technical support and troubleshooting for camera systems, and deliver training sessions for customer teams as needed.
How you'll be doing it
  • You'll empower our engineers to build and deploy world-class visual inspection solutions to solve challenging business problems.
  • You'll operate in a collaborative but highly autonomous environment that isn't bogged down by unnecessary meetings or project management.
  • You'll learn a lot along the way, diving into new technologies and the world of computer vision both on your own and during frequent company tech talks.
What you bring to the table
  • Strong understanding of camera system pipelines and the tradeoffs between parameters and image quality.
  • Hands-on experience selecting and configuring camera hardware for industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of networking infrastructure, including configuring switches, routers, and other network-related components
  • Practical experience troubleshooting imaging systems - both in the lab and in the field.
  • Comfortable supporting customers directly through on-site visits, remote sessions, and training.
  • Excellent collaboration, presentation, and communication skills - able to explain technical concepts clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A self-driven mindset with the flexibility to work independently in the field and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
Bonus points if...
  • You have experience in computer vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or a related field.
  • You have prior experience in solutions, sales engineering, or other customer-facing technical roles.
  • You're familiar with one scripting language, such as Python.
  • You have experience integrating with downstream automation systems, including PLCs, Node-RED environments, MES, or SCADA platforms.
  • You have experience at a high-growth technology startup.
  • You have a high-level understanding of networking infrastructure and protocols such as GigE, GenICam, USBVision, and ONVIF.
  • You're familiar with streaming protocols like RTMP, RTSP, and HLS.
What we offer in return
    • On-site training to help you be successful in this role.
    • Competitive pay and compensation.
    • Free lunch, healthy drinks, and snacks every day.
    • A flexible schedule that leaves time for all of your other interests.
    • Resources to learn about the cutting edge of software engineering and computer vision.
    • You'll be working at our new office in downtown Palo Alto, just a five-minute walk from the Caltrain station.

Matroid is committed to creating a diverse work environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, non-disqualifying physical or mental disability, national origin, veteran status, or any other basis covered by appropriate law.
