We're looking for a reliable, skilled, and professional Part-Time Handyman to join our maintenance team. In this role, you'll be the person our residents and property owners count on to keep their buildings safe, functional, and well-maintained. You won't just be fixing things you'll be protecting people's homes and preserving the value of the properties in our portfolio.

$20 - $25 per hour


Responsibilities:

What You'll Be Doing

  • Perform routine and as-needed maintenance repairs across residential properties in the Serene PM portfolio, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and general upkeep
  • Complete unit turns between tenants, patching, painting, cleaning fixtures, replacing hardware, and ensuring units are move-in ready to Serene PM standards
  • Respond to maintenance work orders submitted by residents in a timely, professional, and courteous manner
  • Conduct routine property walk-throughs and inspections to identify maintenance issues before they become costly problems
  • Coordinate with property managers and vendors on larger repair projects that require licensed contractors or specialty trades
  • Document completed work orders with notes, photos, and status updates using our property management platform
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, cleanly, and in compliance with local building codes and habitability standards
  • Handle seasonal maintenance tasks such as weatherproofing, common area upkeep, and preventative maintenance checks

Qualifications:

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on handyman, maintenance, or facilities experience; residential property experience is strongly preferred
  • General proficiency across multiple trades: basic plumbing, electrical, drywall, carpentry, painting, and fixture installation
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to travel between properties in the Chicago area
  • A professional, courteous demeanor when interacting with residents and property owners, you represent the Serene brand in the field
  • Strong time management skills, you manage your own schedule, prioritize effectively, and follow through on every work order
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks in varied environments
  • Smartphone proficiency for communication, work order tracking, and photo documentation
  • HVAC, plumbing, or electrical certifications are a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of Chicago building codes and habitability requirements is a strong advantage
