What is a part-time preschool teacher?

Part-time preschool teachers are educators who work with young children, typically ages 3 to 5, in a preschool setting but for fewer hours than a full-time schedule. They focus on supporting children's early development through structured activities, play, and lessons that promote social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Part-time roles may involve working mornings, afternoons, or specific days of the week, making it a flexible option for both teachers and schools. These teachers often collaborate with full-time staff and may assist in preparing lesson plans, supervising children, and communicating with parents.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time preschool teacher?

To thrive as a Part-Time Preschool Teacher, you need a background in early childhood education, knowledge of child development, and often a relevant certification or degree. Familiarity with classroom management systems, educational software, and basic first aid certification is typically required. Strong communication, creativity, patience, and the ability to engage young children are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that supports children's learning and development.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time preschool teachers, and how can they effectively manage them?

Part-time preschool teachers often face the challenge of building strong relationships with students and colleagues in a limited timeframe. They may also need to quickly adapt to different classroom routines and support full-time staff. Effective communication, staying organized, and actively participating in team meetings can help part-time teachers integrate smoothly and stay updated on curriculum changes. Additionally, setting clear expectations with students and parents helps ensure consistency across the teaching team.

$18-$20/hour | Part-Time | Vancouver, WA (East)
15-30 hours per week: Prefer weekday afternoons plus one weekend day
We're not looking for someone who just likes kids.
We're looking for the one who walks into a room and kids instantly light up.
The one who can take a small group of 3-5 year olds and turn chaotic energy into structured learning-without killing the fun.
Someone who can be silly, animated, and fully in it... while still leading with clarity and confidence.
We know-we're looking for a unicorn.
At The Little Gym of Vancouver, our Preschool Instructors don't just run classes-they create the kind of early childhood experiences kids carry with them as core memories. We build confidence, independence, and "I did it myself" moments.
And yes... a lot of giggles.
What You'll Do
  • Lead high-energy, structured classes for preschool-aged children (3-5 years)
  • Turn our weekly lesson plans into playful, engaging experiences kids can't wait to come back to
  • Confidently manage group behavior, activity transitions, and short attention spans
  • Use your voice, presence, and personality to keep kids focused, moving, and having fun
  • Create a space where kids feel safe when they try, fail, and try again
  • Connect with parents in a way that builds trust and excitement about their child's progress
  • Track and communicate student progress with professionalism to parents and peers
  • Perform daily disinfecting and deep cleaning duties to keep our facility germ-free and looking fresh.

What Makes You a Unicorn
  • Kids are naturally drawn to you-you're a kid magnet!
  • You can be big, expressive, and a little ridiculous... and still fully in control
  • You know how to hold a boundary without losing warmth
  • You bring positive energy to every shift because you know it's about the kids
  • You notice the quiet kid, celebrate the small wins, and make every child feel seen
  • You show up consistently-because these kids rely on you

Bonus if you have experience in: Early childhood education, gymnastics, dance, cheer, coaching, or fitness
Why Our Unicorns Love It Here
  • You get to be fully yourself-big personalities encouraged
  • You'll see real growth in kids (first rolls, first jumps, first "I did it!" moments)
  • You're not stuck behind a desk-you're moving, playing, and leading
  • We'll teach you everything you need to know-no gymnastics background required
  • You'll be part of a team that cares about doing this really well (not just getting through the day)

If you're reading this and thinking, "Finally-this is my kind of job," we'd love to meet you. Apply today!
Compensation: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
