Job description

Description:

About the role

Temperature Specialists, Inc. is a manufacturer of custom, high-accuracy temperature sensors used in industrial and laboratory applications worldwide. We are hiring a Sensor Case Fabricator to join our machine shop team โ€” producing the custom metal sensor cases and components that house every sensor we make.

This is a hands-on metal fabrication and production machining role with genuine variety. No two weeks are exactly the same โ€” you'll work across manual lathe turning, tube cutting, TIG welding, laser welding, sandblasting, deburring, and metal finishing to produce high-volume runs of precision sensor cases. You'll read blueprints, set up your own work, and take ownership of parts from raw stock to finished component. No prior experience is required โ€” we train from the ground up. A background in machining, welding, fabrication, or any hands-on metalworking trade is a plus.

What you'll do

  • Operate a manual lathe to turn and machine metal sensor case components to specification, including machine setup, tooling, and in-process measurement
  • Use a chop saw and cutting equipment to cut metal tubing and stock to specified lengths
  • Perform TIG welding to close one end of sensor case tubes, producing clean, consistent welds to print
  • Operate laser welding equipment to join small sensor case components and fittings with precision
  • Deburr and clean up machined and cut parts to remove sharp edges and meet finish requirements
  • Operate sandblasting equipment to surface-treat metal sensor cases and components
  • Use wire wheel polishing equipment to finish and clean metal parts to the required surface appearance
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work orders; use measuring instruments to inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and quality
  • Operate manual milling equipment and other shop equipment as needed
  • Document production output and log completed work orders; maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment

What we're looking for

  • Mechanical aptitude and genuine comfort working with machine tools, hand tools, and fabrication equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and work orders
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, consistent parts in a production environment
  • Comfortable working in a machine shop environment โ€” you'll be around metal chips, cutting fluids, welding, and surface treatment processes daily
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to communicate with other production departments
  • Prior experience in machining, fabrication, welding, metalworking, or a related hands-on trade is preferred but not required โ€” all technical skills are developed through in-house training

A note on the work

This role is a good fit for someone who likes variety and takes pride in producing physical things. You won't be doing the same task all day โ€” the mix of turning, welding, blasting, and finishing keeps the work engaging. If you've ever enjoyed working with your hands, building things, or operating machinery โ€” whether professionally or as a hobby โ€” this is worth applying for.

Why join Temperature Specialists

  • Genuine variety of fabrication work โ€” lathe turning, welding, cutting, finishing, and more in a single role
  • Comprehensive in-house training โ€” no prior machining or fabrication experience required
  • Stable, full-time position with a specialty manufacturer of custom-engineered precision products
  • Opportunity to develop a broad, in-demand skill set across multiple fabrication and metalworking processes
