Job description

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) at the University of Virginia invites applications for a part-time Wage Lecturer position. The successful candidate will collaborate with DMSE faculty to develop a new course, Processing of Polymeric Materials , and subsequently teach the course as a Special Topics elective for undergraduate students during the Spring 2027 semester.
The appointment is expected to begin during the Fall 2026 semester (September 2026). Total compensation for the appointment is $7,000.
Responsibilities
  • Developing, preparing, and distributing course materials
  • Delivering classroom instruction and maintaining scheduled contact hours
  • Holding office hours and meeting with students as scheduled
  • Evaluating student performance through grading and assessment
  • Providing student advising and mentoring

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and/or relevant expertise in the related subject area.
