Job description

ANNOUNCEMENT
Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for part-time instructors for the Physics department. Part-time instructors are hired on an as-needed basis. Your application will be placed in a pool for review as part-time teaching assignments become available.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Part-time/adjunct faculty in Physics are responsible for teaching the objectives for each course assigned, the assessment of student learning, and reporting of student progress as required by the college.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications depend on the course taught. Please see below for minimum qualifications for the various courses taught in the Physics department.
A Master's Degree or higher in Physical Science, or Master's Degree with 18 graduate hours in a single Physical Science discipline, or Master's Degree with at least 24 graduate hours in multiple Physical Science disciplines is required for the following course:
  • PHYS 101, General Physical Science
A Master's Degree or higher in Physics, or Master's Degree with 18 graduate hours in physics with at least Calculus III or Differential Equations prerequisite and at least one advanced laboratory course or a Physic PhD candidate with 30 semester hours of graduate course work completed is required for the following courses:
  • PHYS 151, College Physics I
  • PHYS 152, College Physics II
  • PHYS 204, Physics - Mechanics
  • PHYS 205, Physics - Heat, Electricity & Magnetism
  • PHYS 206, Physics - Light & Modern Physics
STARTING PAY AND HOURS
Salary varies based on educational level and number of units taught.

WORK LOCATION
Physics courses are offered at the SWIC Belleville, Sam Wolf Granite City and Red Bud Campuses.
