Position Summary
This is a part-time phlebotomy role, requiring 19 hours per week, located at a client site in Manchester, IA. The working hours are as follows:
- Monday: 9 AM - 5 PM
- Wednesday: 8 AM - 2 PM
- Friday: 8 AM - 2 PM
The Client Office Phlebotomist – Out of State embodies our mission, vision, and values, adheres to our Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts phlebotomy and other laboratory specimen collections according to age-related standards.
- Provides appropriate care to patients post-phlebotomy.
- Identifies when medical assistance is needed and calls for help as necessary.
- Monitors and records refrigerator temperatures and quality control/quality assurance records, documenting any concerns in the Corrective Action Log and notifying maintenance for repairs.
- Utilizes manual requisitions and accurately labels specimens.
- Processes specimens in accordance with established protocols and policies.
- Effectively collects blood specimens from patients of all ages, including infants, adults, geriatrics, and those in wheelchairs.
- Demonstrates competency in age-related responsibilities.
- Understands the operation and maintenance of relevant equipment.
- Follows up on outstanding orders in the manifest log and communicates all completed or pending draws/charges/results to client office staff.
- Requests and obtains written physician orders with all necessary information for lab services and accurately enters laboratory tests into the computer system.
- Prioritizes tasks and manages multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Maintains a collection and cancellation rate of less than 2 percent.
- Adheres to TJC National Patient Safety goals regarding patient identification and hand hygiene.
- Exhibits a friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor.
- Provides accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers.
- Addresses inquiries and concerns promptly or directs them to the appropriate person.
- Collaborates with colleagues across departments to foster teamwork.
- Communicates effectively, respecting diverse opinions and acknowledging contributions from others.
- Utilizes organizational resources efficiently.
- Manages work schedule effectively, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- Participates in initiatives to reduce costs, streamline processes, and enhance services.
- Informs the Laboratory and/or Physician of any issues with specimen procurement to ensure optimal patient care.
- Provides follow-up on test results to relevant individuals in a courteous manner.
- Stays informed by reading emails and demonstrates compliance with MediaLab.
- Maintains a safe working environment and holds oneself accountable for safe practices.
- Follows all recommendations from the Lab and Hospital Safety Committee.
- Performs all patient care tasks in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of errors.
- Adheres to all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Handles clerical duties related to lab specimen processing, including faxing, printing, filing, reviewing, and verbally releasing lab results.
- Proactively meets responsibilities without prompting and completes tasks independently.
- Consistently demonstrates teamwork values.
- Interacts professionally with all team members and assists coworkers in completing assigned tasks.
- May require travel to additional sites as needed.
Qualifications
- Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization or training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, or at least one year of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare environment.
- Preferred: Experience in performing phlebotomy on a diverse range of patients.
- Experience with lab specimen processing, transferring specimens, and operating a centrifuge.
- Familiarity with medical EMR systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.

Sign-on Bonus Eligibility
Internal employees and rehires who left within the past year are not eligible for the sign-on bonus. However, new graduate internal employees seeking their first licensed clinical position may qualify depending on the job family.
