To thrive as a Part Time Pediatric RN, you need a valid RN license, strong pediatric assessment skills, and experience in child-focused care, often supported by certifications like PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). Familiarity with pediatric EHR systems, medication administration, and age-appropriate medical equipment is typically required. Compassion, patience, and excellent communication with both children and their families are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure safe, effective care and foster trust with young patients and their caregivers, even in part-time roles where consistency is vital.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time pediatric RNs, and how can they be managed?

Part-time pediatric RNs often face challenges such as staying updated with patient care plans and maintaining strong communication with the healthcare team due to their limited hours. To manage this, it's important to utilize thorough handoff reports, actively participate in team meetings when possible, and make use of digital charting systems to stay informed about patient progress. Building strong relationships with fellow nurses and physicians also helps ensure continuity of care and smooth transitions during shift changes.

What is a Part Time Pediatric RN?

A Part Time Pediatric RN is a registered nurse who specializes in caring for infants, children, and adolescents, but works fewer hours than a full-time nurse, typically under 30-36 hours per week. These nurses assess and monitor young patients, administer medications, assist with treatments, and educate families about health care needs. Part time positions can offer flexible schedules, making them ideal for those balancing other commitments while still providing critical pediatric care. They may work in hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices, or home health settings.

Why Apply with Urgent Care for Children?
Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, Urgent Care for Children began serving patients ages zero to 21 in 2017. Since then, we've grown from one clinic to 20 across the Southeast. At the core of everything that we do are our values: quality care, convenient care, and continuity of care. We seek to provide quality and convenient after-hours care for pediatric patients while also creating a continuum of care by working alongside their primary care pediatrician. Along the way we have been recognized by a number of publications for our dedication to providing quality care with less waiting with awards like "Best Urgent Care" and "Favorite Kids Docs."
With more than 5,000 five-star reviews, we take pride in bridging the gap between the emergency room and a patient's primary care by providing a convenient and affordable after-hours care option for families all 365 days of the year. Our state-of-the-art facilities are home to an on-site laboratory, x-ray, and pharmacy, which create a one-stop shop for anyone who visits us, and an extraordinary atmosphere for employees to provide the highest level of care possible. Our greatest asset are our talented, compassionate, and skilled team members, and we look forward to hearing from you!
