Job description

Job Summary 
The Library Shop at the New York Public Library is a one-of-a-kind store created for book people. The design of the shop -- 1100 square feet -- separates it into two distinct rooms: one for books (children and adults), journals, souvenir items, and literary totes and tees; and one for jewelry and accessories, desk, and other book-related gifts including proprietary products ranging from bookends to ornaments.  Its 4000 plus hand-selected items make the Library Shop a destination for tourists from around the world, and between 1500 and 2000 items are sold daily.

The Library Shop is seeking a Seasonal Part-Time Receiving Associate who can accurately and efficiently assist in Receiving.
The position is temporary through January 8th, 2027.
 
Responsibilities: 
The Seasonal Part-Time Receiving Associate reports to the Associate Manager, Receiving
  • Checking in deliveries against packing slips and purchase orders, reporting any discrepancies
  • Pricing most and occasionally packaging merchandise
  • Distributing merchandise to shop and storage areas
  • Maintaining all stock areas so merchandise is easily found and identifiable
  • Learning the Shop's POS and inventory system and using it for daily tasks with minimum supervision
  • Performing related duties as required
Required Education & Certifications
  • High School Diploma minimum
Required Experience
  • 1-year Receiving experience 
Required Skills
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform detailed and repetitive work accurately and neatly
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated reliability and flexibility
  • Demonstrated computer and related technology skills
  • Experience working in a retail environment preferred
