Job description

COMPANY OVERVIEW: 

Industrial Metal Supply, founded in 1948, is a leading metals distributor with seven locations serving California and Arizona. POSITION OVERVIEW:

Responsible for moving materials within the warehouse during different stages of the order fulfillment process, such as, but not limited to, receiving, stocking, pulling to process (including operating various types of saws and shears and processing equipment), packaging, and loading onto transports. Utilizes a variety of saws, shears, and processing equipment in conjunction with preparing and completing orders. Responsible for good housekeeping and performing all duties in a safe and mindful manner. Provides excellent, professional, and responsive customer service, promptly and courteously assisting customers with purchases and the efficient processing of all orders. Performs related work as required.


RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Interacts and communicates with customers and fellow employees in a friendly an professional manner. 
  • Follows all Company Safety Rules.
  • Has knowledge of company products and materials and knows material locations in warehouse facilities.
  • Locates and safely pulls the material indicated on work orders using the appropriate material handling equipment. (i.e., forklifts, order picker, etc.).
  • Verifies the size of materials with the use of calipers, tape measure, and/or color-coding system.
  • Confirms that pulled material meets Company quality standards.
  • Documents material pulled using established Company procedures.
  • Understands and uses the proper tagging process.
  • Assists in stocking materials and storing materials in accordance with Company policies.
  • Understands the significance of a “Heat” and “Lot” Number and the proper way to handle and identify materials with stocking tags.
  • Ensures that materials of the same grade are stored properly.
  • Uses proper packaging procedures for different types of material.
  • Comprehends and follows information contained on work orders, including special instructions, to ensure proper order fulfillment.
  • Safely operates all cutting equipment, such as, but not limited to, Skill and wood saws.
  • Carries out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.
  • Performs general housekeeping and other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Must be 18 years and older 
  • Experience of 6 months to 1 year in material handling preferred in a metal manufacturing environment. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to regularly lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds. 
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping throughout the shift. 
  • Ability to work in a noisy, industrial environment with exposure to heat, cold, and metal dust. 
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination for handling materials and operating equipment. 
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions as needed. 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with attention to safety. 
  • Additionally, the ability to hear and interpret auditory signals, alarms, and communication is essential to ensure safety and effective performance in this role.
