What are part time online adjuncts?

Part time online adjuncts are instructors who teach courses at colleges or universities on a contractual, part-time basis, primarily through online platforms. They are not full-time faculty members, and their responsibilities often include delivering lectures, grading assignments, and supporting students remotely. These educators typically teach one or more courses per term and may hold other jobs or responsibilities outside of teaching. Their flexible roles make it possible for schools to offer a wider range of classes and for professionals to share their expertise with students. Online adjunct positions can be found in a variety of academic disciplines.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Online Adjunct, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Online Adjunct, you generally need subject-matter expertise, a relevant advanced degree (often a master's or doctorate), and teaching experience. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (such as Canvas or Blackboard), virtual conferencing tools, and online grading platforms is typically required. Strong communication, time management, and student engagement skills are essential soft skills for success in a remote teaching environment. These competencies ensure effective course delivery, foster student success, and maintain high academic standards in online education.
