Role Overview
Looking for a rewarding Spring/Summer role or a year-round opportunity with flexible scheduling? The YMCA of the Lowcountry is seeking confident, engaging, and safety-focused Swim Instructors to deliver high-quality swim lessons to participants of all ages and skill levels. This role plays a critical part in promoting water safety, building confidence, and supporting the YMCA's mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Multiple shifts are available, including morning, afternoon, and evening, as well as private lesson opportunities, based on your availability.
Qualifications
  • YMCA Swim Instructor certification (or ability to obtain within the required timeframe).
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications required (or ability to obtain upon hire within 30 days)
  • Ability to demonstrate swim instructor competencies according to YMCA standards
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Commitment to YMCA mission, safety standards, and youth protection practices

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous swim instruction or aquatic experience
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Passion for water safety and skill development

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to demonstrate and observe swim strokes and aquatic skills
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive in a pool environment for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, assist, or support children and equipment up to approximately 30 pounds
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor aquatic environments
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.

  • Complimentary YMCA Membership for Part-Time employees. An additional adult family member may be added for $20 per month
  • Participation in the National YMCA Retirement Fund, a defined contribution plan. Employees become eligible for a 12% employer contribution after completing 1,000 hours of service in each of two 12-month periods (doesn't have to be consecutive)
  • All staff are eligible to make voluntary 403(b) retirement contributions (no employer match)
