GENERAL CLEANER
Part Time

NATURE OF WORK:

General cleaners are responsible for the overall cleanliness of the campus which includes but is not limited to offices, resident rooms, corridors, lobbies, entrances, clinics, stairwells, and other public areas such as dining rooms and waiting areas. General cleaners must maintain a safe and clean environment for students, staff, and visitors. Must be polished and have a professional demeanor. Cleans, sanitizes, and disinfects all areas.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Disinfecting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting assigned areas using checklists/duty list.
  • Disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, counter, showers, bathtubs, patient areas, and scrubs walls; dusts clean and vacuums furniture, blinds, windows or shades, fixtures, doors, and related furnishings by using appropriate cleaning supplies.
  • Responsible for maintaining the appropriate level of sanitary and cleaning supplies for assigned areas.
  • Maintains assigned equipment in good working condition.
  • Cleans interior glass and dusts and polishes furniture.
  • Disinfects and maintains ice machine and water fountains.
  • Also maintain stainless steel on water fountains, elevators, restrooms etc. Collect and remove trash from buildings each day.
  • Replaces sharps containers, transports trash, and removes empty boxes.
  • Pick-up and dispose of our store hazardous-regulated-infectious waste as required.
  • Disinfect patient, student & staff area restrooms, vanity area, shower, and locker rooms.
  • Disinfect utility rooms, waiting rooms, public restrooms keeping all in orderly condition.


  • Maintain clean environment on Campus and in Campus offices by sweeping and mopping tile floors and/or vacuum carpet, dusting, light shields, base boards, ledges, and windowsills.
  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect high touch items such as but not limited to tabletops, desktops, chairs, exterior wash stations, handles, knobs, and light switches on an ongoing basis with disinfecting wipes.
  • Monitor and restocks restroom dispensers such as hand towels, toilet paper, hand soap and sanitary napkins.
  • Complete all daily work orders as scheduled.
  • Participates in special projects and accepts new projects when assigned.
  • Knows and follows all housekeeping policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate awareness of information relating to health and safety at work and always perform safely.
  • Will require physical ability to bend, stoop, reach.
  • Requires moderate level of verbal communication skills to interact with patients, students & staff, often under stressful situations.
  • Requires technical knowledge of general & specialized cleaning procedures & products.
  • May assist with office or room special cleaning as needed Assists in project work if needed and/or assigned by department leadership.
  • May be needed for โ€œon callโ€ for flood relief and/or other immediate relief efforts.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all materials handled within the campus and company.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures.
  • Complies with campus and departmental policies regarding the dress code.
  • Must be mindful of slip, trip or fall hazards.
  • Must label chemicals correctly.
  • Uses appropriate cleaning supplies according to departmental procedures.
  • Uses safe and proper cleaning procedures to prepare patient areas, and other assigned areas in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Keeps housekeeping closet and equipment in area of responsibility clean and in order.
  • Maintain daily records of all work performed in accordance with departmental policies and procedures (Daily checklist/duty list).
  • Willing to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis despite frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to perform tasks with due consideration for patients in vicinity.
  • Work under close supervision performing standardized tasks.
  • Receive assignment. Assemble needed materials and supplies, load service cart and transport.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through in-service and other educational training.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the campus/ company as well as the proper release of information.
  • Reports any discrepancies or deficiencies to supervisor.
  • Other related duties as assigned by department management deemed operationally necessary.
  • Represents Encompass in a positive manner; can follow oral instructions, is pleasant, tactful, and courteous and cooperative with supervisor, co-workers, residents, and client staff.
  • Must be able to accomplish all responsibilities without supervision or other employee assistance after the training period is completed and do so without injury to oneself or other individuals.
  • Must be able to fully understand and complete all In-Services.
  • Must clock in and out and adhere to attendance policy, consistently embodies the characteristics necessary to drive the Company's mission statement, Vision, and Core Values.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English/Spanish to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to cooperate with other employees. Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Requires physical ability to bend, stoop, reach. Must be able to lift more than 30lbs several times per shift (e.g., waste & soiled laundry handling, trash handling).
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions in the process of dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, and hand scrubbing.
  • Must be able to work above and below waste with repetitive motion.
  • Must be able to operate & control equipment such as vacuums.
  • Work involves pulling and pushing, carrying weight up to 50 pounds, twisting, bending, and reaching from floor to waist height and from waist to above head.
