Job description

Summary
About the position: This position will be assigned to the Aviation Cadet Pool, Outdoor Recreation on Maxwell AFB, AL.
This position is an Intermittent/Flexible position, which means you may be scheduled from 0 to 40 hours per week based on mission need. This position is a Term position and the appointment will not last beyond 31 Oct 2026.

Duties
Help
The following are duties you may be required to accomplish but it is not all inclusive
- Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons.
- Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area.
- Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed.
- Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions, ocean conditions of rough water or hazards, and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail.
- When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards.
-Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting, and that necessary repairs are made.
- May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include: cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing areas, etc.

  • Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Must possess an approved current and valid nationally recognized certification in lifeguard, basic first aid, and CPR which covers lifesaving and water rescue methods, skills and procedures for adult, child and infant.
  • Satisfactory completion of installation records checks, state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children.

Qualifications
Qualifying Experience: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
