General Definition and Scope of Job

Responsible and accountable for the overall nursing care management of an assigned group of patients.ย  Collaborates with the Department Manager and other members of the health care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.ย  Uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat the patient's responses to actual or potential health conditions.ย  Assesses, monitors, detects, plans, and takes appropriate action to prevent potential physiological complications associated with specific health problems and/or medical treatment.ย  Staff is dedicated, team-oriented professionals who focus on superior quality patient care.ย  Positive attitude and teamwork are essential, exceptional customer service to patients is required.ย  The RN is accountable to practice in accordance with the Michigan Public Health Code Act 368 of 1978, Article 15 (Health Occupations), part 172 (Nursing) and NOCHS Professional Nursing Practice Handbook.

The Charge Nurse assumes accountability, in cooperation with the Department Manager and/or House Supervisor for the coordination of a specific unit during an assigned time frame, when assigned to do so.ย  This includes setting priorities for patient care, resolving clinical imperatives for patient care, and serving as clinical support.ย  While serving in the role of the Charge Nurse, the nurse may carry a patient assignment as well as perform duties of the Charge Nurse.

Part Time, 48 hours per pay period, 3rd shift, 7p-7a

What are the Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements?

  1. Current RN licensure in the State of Michigan.
  2. Current BLS and PEARS for Medical Surgical Unit certification, ACLS for Intensive Care Unit.
  3. Ability to successfully complete the general orientation.
  4. Ability to successfully complete the unit competency inventory/staff development plan..
  5. Able to read, write, and speak the English language effectively.

  3. Takes an active role in providing assistance to staff.
  4. Serves as a resource person on clinical nursing practice issues specific to department.
  5. Collaborates with other health care team members and ancillary departments to ensure high qualityย patient care, and expectations of patient disposition.ย 
  6. Intercedes with difficult patients and resolves staff or patient disputes when appropriate, including completion of necessary documentation and notification of management when necessary.ย 
  7. Initiates emergency, safety practices and fire safety measures as appropriate.
  8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Department Manager.
