Common Search & ComparisonPart Time Np vs Part Time Physician Assistant

Both Part Time NPs and Part Time Physician Assistants work in outpatient healthcare settings, providing primary and specialized care. NPs typically have advanced nursing credentials and focus on patient education and holistic care, while PAs have a medical model training and assist physicians with diagnosis and treatment. The choice depends on your background and career goals within the healthcare industry.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a part time nurse practitioner?

To thrive as a Part Time Nurse Practitioner, you need advanced clinical knowledge, diagnostic skills, and a Master's degree in nursing along with national NP certification and state licensure. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), telehealth platforms, and diagnostic tools is typically required. Strong interpersonal communication, time management, and adaptability are vital soft skills for balancing patient care with flexible work schedules. These skills ensure high-quality, efficient care delivery and patient satisfaction while maintaining compliance and productivity in a part-time capacity.

How do part time nurse practitioners balance patient care responsibilities with flexible scheduling?

Part-time Nurse Practitioners (NPs) often manage a diverse patient load while working fewer hours than their full-time counterparts. Flexibility in scheduling allows part-time NPs to tailor shifts around other commitments, but it also requires excellent time management and communication with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care. Many part-time NPs collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to provide seamless patient care, attend team meetings, and stay updated on patient progress. Balancing these responsibilities can be challenging, but it offers a rewarding work-life balance and opportunities to focus on specific areas of clinical interest.

What is a part time nurse practitioner?

Part-time NPs, or part-time nurse practitioners, are advanced practice registered nurses who work fewer hours than full-time staff, typically less than 35-40 hours per week. They provide patient care, perform assessments, prescribe medications, and manage treatment plans, but their schedules allow for greater flexibility. Part-time NPs might work in clinics, hospitals, private practices, or other healthcare settings and their roles are similar to those of full-time NPs, though with reduced hours. This arrangement can offer better work-life balance and may suit those pursuing further education, family commitments, or other personal interests.

Job description

Overview

The Sub-Acute and Long-Term Care sector is rapidly growing, offering excellent opportunities and a flexible work-life balance (no on-call duties or weekend shifts)! We are looking for a healthcare provider to fill a part-time role, working 32 hours over four days, across two facilities located in Frederick, MD, and Walkersville, MD: Autumn Lake Healthcare at Ballenger Creek and Autumn Lake Healthcare at Glade Valley. This position is open to either a nurse practitioner or a physician assistant, with a minimum of one year of relevant experience required.

The salary for this role ranges from $56.73 to $59.13 per hour, along with an incentive compensation bonus program that has no cap.

Our organization is a national medical group committed to enhancing health outcomes for residents in skilled nursing and senior living facilities. Our team of physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician assistants (PAs) is backed by a clinical leadership team with extensive experience in post-acute and long-term care. We strive for improved quality of life for everyone involved, aiming to elevate healthcare outcomes for our patients, providers, and partners. Our daily operations are guided by our core mission and values.

Responsibilities

The Advanced Practice Provider will report directly to the Director of Clinical Practice and/or the Area Clinical Practice Manager. This role involves collaborating on-site with the Center Leadership Team to meet specific goals and priorities. Additionally, the Advanced Practice Provider will work alongside the Medical Director and/or Attending Physician to deliver patient-centered medical care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing primary and urgent care services to residents of the nursing center in partnership with other medical professionals.
  • Working closely with Center Leadership to fulfill our mission of enhancing lives through high-quality healthcare and compassionate service.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Advanced Practice Provider role must have graduated from an accredited nursing program and hold a valid registered nurse license. Nurse Practitioners should be certified after completing an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing, focusing on Older Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) specialties. Other specialties may be considered based on experience and organizational needs. Physician Assistants must have graduated from an ARC-PA accredited program and passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) to use the PAC designation, along with state licensure and NCCPA certification.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • A minimum of two years of experience working with adult or geriatric populations.
  • In states where permitted, APRNs should possess an unrestricted professional license and DEA for each state of practice. PAs must also have an unrestricted professional license and DEA for their respective states.
Benefits

We offer a range of perks and benefits to our employees:

  • Perks:
    • A comprehensive 90-day training program with ongoing support.
    • Mentorship and clinical education programs for new and recent graduates.
    • Career advancement opportunities, including clinical lead roles and specializations in wound or palliative care services.
    • Free access to UpToDate and the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC).
    • Utilization of Nabla, an AI assistant that helps streamline clinical documentation by generating detailed clinical notes quickly.
  • Benefits:
    • An average annual bonus of approximately $13,000 through our no-cap Incentive Compensation Program (for providers working 40 hours per week).
    • Relocation bonuses for eligible candidates, determined by distance, experience, and priority.
    • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance plans.
    • 100% employer-funded ArmadaCare Plan, which reimburses many out-of-pocket medical, wellness, and pharmacy expenses, with a maximum reimbursement of $8,000 for designated expenses and tiered pharmacy reimbursements for single and family plans.
    • Paid Time Off, six paid holidays, paid sick leave, and bereavement leave.
    • Continuing Medical Education time off and reimbursement for related expenses.
    • Reimbursement for licensing renewal fees and full coverage for malpractice insurance.
    • 401(k) plan and company-paid group life insurance.

Note: Restrictions may apply based on collective bargaining agreements, state laws, and factors such as pay classification, job grade, location, and length of service. To qualify for full-time benefits, a minimum of 30 hours per week is required. Certain benefits, including health plans, may not be available to part-time employees working between 16 and 29 hours per week.

Salary Range: USD $56.73 - USD $59.13 per hour.
