Job description

What We Offer
The Certified Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Certified surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Hours / Shift: Monday - Friday from 7AM until 3:30PM. No Holidays, No On-Call and Weekends [Part Time; about 2.5 Days Per Week]
What You'll Do
  • Surgical Support: Assist the surgical team throughout procedures by preparing the OR, organizing instruments and supplies, and maintaining sterile technique and patient safety.
  • Patient Care: Protect patient privacy, dignity, and comfort while assisting with transportation, positioning, communication, and perioperative needs.
  • OR & Equipment: Prepare and maintain operating rooms, instruments, medications, and equipment. Participate in surgical time-outs and ensure appropriate supplies are available.
  • Sterile Processing: Clean, disinfect, sterilize, assemble, and maintain surgical instruments according to established standards and manufacturer guidelines. Monitor sterilization processes and maintain accurate records.
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow facility policies, infection prevention standards, safety procedures, and accepted surgical practices. Monitor supplies, equipment, crash carts, and expiration dates.
  • Teamwork & Professionalism: Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare professionals, support efficient case management, maintain inventory and cost-conscious practices, and participate in continuing education and performance improvement.

What We're Looking For
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or Military Training Equivalent (68D - Operating Room Specialist). For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification please see additional skills required. Online Surgical Tech program credits will not be accepted.
  • Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Current Surgical Tech certification, required - based on state specific regulations (South Carolina Region Only)
  • Additional Skills (required): For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification the following additional requirements apply: new graduates must obtain certification within 12months of hire. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skill validation and competency testing. Demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills.
  • Additional Skills (preferred): One to two years of experience in sterile processing or equivalent training if assigned solely to sterile processing.
