Job Description:
Job Summary: The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing direct patient care relating to respiratory illness and diseases in all areas serviced by Respiratory Therapy including neonatal, infant, children, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
  1. Administers routine respiratory therapy procedures per physician orders.
  2. Maintains artificial airways, assist with intubation, tracheostomy change and decannulation.
  3. Performs arterial puncture and analysis.
  4. Assist with cleaning, sterilization and reassembly of equipment.
  5. Initiates, monitors and maintains continuous mechanical ventilation per physician orders.
  6. Performs cardio pulmonary resuscitation and other emergency respiratory therapy procedures as necessary.
  7. Documents respiratory therapy procedures per policy in the patient medical record.
  8. Provides instruction to patients on the respiratory therapy modalities ordered by their physician.
  9. Evaluates patient's clinical conditions and provides suggestions and recommendations for therapeutic procedures to meet patient treatment process.
  10. Assists with chart audits and quality improvement reviews.
  11. Job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and may be subject to change with or without notice. Staff are expected to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) with a minimum of an associate degree.

    • OR

  • In lieu of an associate degree: Six (6) plus years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

    • AND

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Licensure by the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Current JPS recognized BLS certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Allied Health or a related discipline from an accredited College or University.
  • 2 years clinical experience in a critical care setting.
