Job description
About us:
Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) is a global Jewish human rights organization that confronts antisemitism and hate, defends the safety of Israel and Jews worldwide, and teaches the lessons of the Holocaust through awareness, advocacy, justice, education, and its Museums of Tolerance. With a constituency of over 400,000 member families since its founding in 1977, the SWC has an international footprint through its Museums of Tolerance, Moriah Films, and the Digital Terrorism + Hate Project.
Headquartered in Los Angeles, it maintains operations in New York, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Paris, Berlin, Jerusalem, and Buenos Aires. It is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, UNESCO, the Organization of American States, the Latin American Parliament, and the Council of Europe and maintains relationships with the highest levels of governments throughout the world.
In 1993, the Center opened the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles with worldwide acclaim. The Museum has served as the Center’s flagship educational arm, challenging visitors to confront bigotry and racism, and to understand the Holocaust in both historical and contemporary contexts. In addition, the Center developed Moriah Media to produce theatrical documentaries to educate global audiences. Moriah has produced 17 documentaries to date, two of which have received the Academy Award for best feature documentary, The Long Way Home and Genocide.
About the role:
We are looking for a Part-time Educator who can facilitate Museums of Tolerance (MOT) programs to middle and high school students on the topics of antisemitism, the Holocaust, the Civil Rights Movement, digital media literacy, and other human rights issues. You will be predominantly managing and conducting digital media literacy workshops in Palm Beach County 5th-12 grade classrooms and on occasionally on board the Mobile Museums of Tolerance in school communities across Florida. We will rely on you to find ways to continuously improve the educational experience the Museums of Tolerance provides and to maintain positive relationships with institutions bringing MOT's educational offerings to their communities.
About you:
You are passionate about fighting against anti-Semitism, racism, and for promoting human rights and dignity. You have experience in teaching and/or facilitating – especially with elementary, middle, and high school students – but also feel comfortable engaging with adults.
You can use good judgment and make sound decisions in a public arena, including the ability to respond appropriately to questions on the above-mentioned topics.
This position will report to the Program Manager or Head of Education for the South. This position requires traveling alongside the MMOT throughout the state of Florida, including rural, suburban, and urban communities.
Responsibilities:
- Travel to Palm Beach County schools for classroom MMOT programming focusing on digital media literacy and alongside the Florida Mobile Museums of Tolerance to different schools and communities throughout Florida.
- Communicate with driver/operator to ensure smooth operation of MMOT before, during, and after visits.
- Facilitate MMOT programs at libraries and other community sites/interacting with visitors of all ages.
- Respond to questions from schools/community sites about programming and daily schedules for upcoming visits.
- Facilitate existing programming in an engaging and interactive manner.
- Assist the Education Team on creating and providing feedback on modules, educational resources, and teachers' guides.
- Report any MMOT maintenance requirements or malfunctions that occur.
- Notify leadership of concerns or issues that occur during an activation.
- Collect and communicate program/workshop data and evaluation results as well as contribute to data analysis with both regional and national MMOT staff.
- Provide input and guidance in gathering data and experience-driven improvement strategies for modules and educational materials.
- Input visit statistics into regional data tracker in a timely manner.
- Submit Expense Reports as needed.
- Manage personal travel and (accommodated) lodging arrangements.
- Attend weekly Regional Team Meetings.
Experience and Skills:
- Reside in Palm Beach County Florida.
- Possess a valid driver's license and vehicle.
- Have at least 1 year of teaching and/or facilitation experience.
- Have at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study.
- Possess a self-starting attitude, be ready to seize opportunities, and make an impact without oversight or specific instruction.
- Timely problem-solving skills to tackle emergencies, unintended delays, and/or changes in the schedule.
- The ability to help create and honor a safe and collaborative culture with consistent communication to colleagues and employees at all levels.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Our Benefits:
- Part-Time Role – Under 29 Hours Per Week
- Hourly Rate - $50/Hr
We value our people and offer a collaborative and engaging culture. As a SWC employee, you will enjoy work/life balance, generous time off, and comprehensive benefits and programs. The Simon Wiesenthal Center embraces inclusivity and values our diverse community. We are committed to building a team based on qualifications, merit, and business needs. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
