Job description

Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Work Study works under the direction of the Debate Administrative Assistant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Making copies of essential forms as needed.

2. Formulating and organizing evidence according to ADA/NDG guidelines

3. Assisting novice and JV debaters with basic debate skills

4. Running department errands

5. Completing word processing and database projects as needed

6. Completing special projects for Coaches as required

7. Assisting in keeping the Debate Office tidy

8. Strictly adhering to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.

9. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

Must have two years of debate experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to perform clerical duties, computer skills (MS Office), good phone etiquette, able to take concise messages, excellent proofreader, organized, self-starter, able to follow written and verbal instructions, able to work with students, faculty, staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful course work in COMS 395, must be able to communicate effectively to students and coaches, must work well under pressure, must be very dependable, must possess copier skills, must possess basic word processing skills, must have knowledge of ADA/NDT guidelines, must be able to work well with debaters and coaches, and must be self-motivated.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.

  • Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.

  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business, government and community customers and associates.

  • Computer and scheduling skills.

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

  • Required to travel to local and campus locations.

  • May be required to sit to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.

  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus.

  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.

  • Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting. It is well lighted and the noise level is moderate. Working environment also includes facilitation of events outdoors occasionally.
