Part Time Music Teacher PS-5, Choir Director
The part-time Music Teacher for grades preschool - 8 at St. Bernadette Parish School instructs students in music theory, vocal performance, instrument use, and appreciation while fostering a love for music within a faith-based environment. The ideal candidate will foster a love of music while supporting the spiritual and academic mission of Catholic education. Key duties include planning and leading liturgical music for school Masses, directing Christmas and Spring concerts in coordination with the Band teacher, and managing classroom behavior.
Reports to the Principal.
Position Summary
  • Role: Part-time Music Teacher, and Choir Leader, Pre-School - Grade 8
  • Mission: Integrate Catholic faith and liturgical music with artistic instruction in music
  • Reports to: School Principal

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach general music classes to students in grades PS 8
  • Develop age-appropriate lessons in vocal music, rhythm, movement, and music theory fundamentals
  • Plan, rehearse and direct students for school performances, prayer services, liturgical celebrations, and spring talent show
  • Integrate Catholic identity and seasonal liturgical music into instruction
  • Foster a positive, structured, and joyful classroom environment
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to integrate music into the broader curriculum and participate in staff meetings
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents and staff
  • Liturgical Support: Prepare students to lead singing at school liturgies and prayer services.
  • Assessment & Reporting: Regularly assess student performance and musical growth, maintain accurate attendance and progress records, and communicate with students, parents and administration as needed.
  • May supervise an elective class as determined by student interest and your talents. (for instance: yearbook, board games, student leadership, chess)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required (Music, Music Education, or related field preferred)
  • Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school music preferred
  • Ability to lead vocal music and accompany (piano or guitar skills strongly preferred)
  • Knowledge of Catholic liturgical music and traditions preferred
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Commitment to supporting the mission of Catholic education (practicing Catholic preferred)
  • Completion of required background check and Virtus training
  • Skills: Proficiency in vocal performance and ability to lead music; strong classroom management skills.

Common Schedule and Benefits
  • Schedule: Part-time (e.g., 12 hours/week), often including specific mornings or weekly commitments for Friday morning liturgies.
  • Compensation: $22,667-$34,510 Hourly or salaried, usually not benefits-eligible. Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
