How much do part time mother baby rn jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 12, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time mother baby rn in Detroit, MI is $47.85, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $35.24 and $62.84 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are common challenges faced by part time mother baby RNs, and how can they manage their workload within limited hours?

Part-time Mother-Baby RNs often face the challenge of balancing patient care responsibilities within shorter shifts, which can make it more difficult to stay updated on patient status and unit changes. Effective communication during handoffs and thorough documentation are essential to ensure continuity of care. Staying organized and prioritizing tasks—such as newborn assessments, patient education, and supporting breastfeeding—helps manage time efficiently. Building strong relationships with full-time team members can also foster better collaboration and support.

What is the difference between Part Time Mother Baby Rn vs Part Time Pediatric Nurse?

AspectPart Time Mother Baby RnPart Time Pediatric Nurse
CertificationsRN license, Neonatal or Mother Baby certification often preferredRN license, Pediatric nursing certification
Work EnvironmentMother Baby units, postpartum wards, neonatal unitsPediatric wards, outpatient clinics, pediatric units
Employer & IndustryHospitals, maternity centers, neonatal care unitsHospitals, pediatric clinics, outpatient facilities

Both roles require an RN license and specialized certifications. The main difference lies in the work environment: Mother Baby RNs focus on postpartum and neonatal care, while Pediatric Nurses work with children across various settings. Both are vital in healthcare, but their patient populations and specific skills differ.

What is a part time mother baby RN?

Part-time Mother Baby RNs are registered nurses who provide care to both mothers and their newborns, usually during the postpartum period, but work less than a full-time schedule. They monitor the health and recovery of mothers after childbirth and ensure newborns are stable and healthy, assisting with feeding, education, and bonding. Working part-time allows these nurses to maintain a flexible schedule while still playing a key role in maternal and infant care, often in hospitals or birthing centers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time mother baby RN?

To thrive as a Part Time Mother Baby RN, you need a current RN license, experience in postpartum and neonatal care, and strong clinical assessment skills. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, fetal monitoring equipment, and basic life support (BLS) certification are typically required. Compassion, attention to detail, and effective communication with families and multidisciplinary teams are standout soft skills in this role. These qualifications and abilities are crucial to ensuring the safety, comfort, and positive outcomes for both mothers and newborns in a dynamic care environment.
