Job description

Applied AI Engineer (Part-Time, Remote - U.S.)
Innovation is at the heart of what we do.
At Implicit, we're building the leading AI Knowledge Engine for Maintenance and Support. Our secure, no-code platform transforms complex technical documents, manuals, procedures, and operational data into trusted, structured knowledge that powers both human experts and AI agents.
We're looking for a part-time Applied AI Engineer to help build the next generation of enterprise AI. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, product leaders, and AI researchers to develop production-grade AI capabilities that solve real-world problems across defense, manufacturing, customer support, and other knowledge-intensive industries.
What You'll Do
  • Design and build AI applications powered by LLMs, RAG, semantic search, and AI agents.
  • Develop intelligent pipelines for document ingestion, knowledge extraction, and retrieval.
  • Improve answer quality through prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, and retrieval optimization.
  • Build and optimize production AI services using Python and modern AI frameworks.
  • Work with agentic development tools including Cursor, Codex and AI-assisted coding workflows.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code with a strong focus on quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and data science teams to rapidly prototype and ship new capabilities.
  • Evaluate emerging AI models, tools, and techniques to continuously improve the platform.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience building AI, machine learning, or NLP applications through industry, open-source, or research.
  • Strong experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, and semantic search.
  • Solid understanding of NLP, machine learning, and modern deep learning techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar ML frameworks.
  • Strong Python development skills and experience building production software.
  • Experience working with APIs, vector databases, and AI application frameworks.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building AI systems for enterprise knowledge management or technical documentation.
  • Experience with AI agents, tool calling, and agentic workflows.
  • Familiarity with knowledge graphs, OCR, document parsing, or multimodal AI.
  • Experience deploying AI applications using modern MLOps practices.
  • Experience evaluating and benchmarking LLM performance.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Flexible part-time schedule.
  • Remote work within the United States.
  • Flexible vacation policy.
  • Opportunity to build cutting-edge AI products with a small, experienced, and highly technical team tackling challenging real-world problems.
