Position Summary:

Processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens; reviews and reports lab results; performs operation, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment; acts as resource to other laboratory personnel.  Additional responsibility may include assisting with new equipment validation and implementation; employee training and competency assessment; regulatory compliance responsibilities for CAP, TJC, AABB or other agencies, quality assurance and quality control performance and evaluation.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489, or have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by obtaining a Florida State license as a Medical Technologist. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489 and 42 CFR 493.1491).

Meets the requirements to be a Technical Consultant, which is a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, physical, or medical technology plus a minimum of two years training or experience in nonwaived testing. This enables the employee to sign off other employees on competency.

EXPERIENCE:
Required 2 years of experience as a clinical laboratory scientist experience in acute care facility or 1 year of experience and a Master's Degree.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION:
Medical Technologist - State of Floridalicensure.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensure in multiple areas; ASCP Certification preferred
