Job description

Providence Hall is a charter school located in Herriman, UT. Central to the school's mission is teaching students to think critically, communicate effectively, and act responsibly.
Providence Hall Charter School is dedicated to providing safe and efficient transportation for our students. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Part-Time School Bus & Fleet Mechanic with experience in diesel engines to join our maintenance team. As a vital member of our organization, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability and safety of our school bus fleet.
Schedule:
  • This position is part-time, as needed.
  • Generally this position will be expected to work two (2) days per week at three (3) hours per day with the understanding that emergency situations may arise and require more hours occasionally.
  • Additionally, this position may be required to travel to repair buses on the road as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on school buses (diesel engines) and school fleet vehicles, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues related to diesel engines and other school fleet vehicles, conducting thorough inspections, and utilizing diagnostic tools.
  • Execute preventive maintenance schedules to minimize breakdowns and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct necessary repairs and replacements of engine components, ensuring adherence to manufacturer specifications.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to prioritize and complete work orders efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts usage and work hours.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements and technologies in engine systems, including diesel engines, to enhance expertise and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and environmental guidelines in all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the transportation department and school in general.
  • Maintain effective communication channels to ensure a collaborative school community.
  • Actively participate in assigned meetings, professional developments, and other trainings.
  • Other duties regarding other school vehicles may be required.

Qualifications:
  • CDL license and maintain UDOT Commercial Driver Fitness Form.
  • Minimum of three (3) years proven experience as a mechanic, with a solid understanding of preventive maintenance practices for diesel engines.
  • Familiarity with school bus systems and safety standards is preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address mechanical issues promptly.
  • Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical information.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including the ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Capacity to perform all the responsibilities listed in this posting.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, and professional references as a condition of employment.
