Our Tutors

As a Federal Work-Study Math Tutor with Saga Education, you'll earn income while making a real difference. Tutors from diverse backgrounds support students' academic growth in schools nationwide. You'll gain valuable experience and have a meaningful impact-all while staying focused on your own education.

The Process

  1. Interested applicants apply and interview with Saga Education.
  2. Applicants who successfully pass the interview stage are invited to take a short math assessment.
  3. Selected Tutors become a part of our Federal Work-Study Program, where they will work with school districts to support student growth and success.
  4. Saga matches their availability with school district needs as they arise.

What You'll Do 

Federal Work Study Math Tutors manage a small caseload of students and promote academic success by focusing intently on providing high-dosage, high-impact tutoring that includes individualized instruction during the school day. During a typical school day, tutors will work remotely with students during multiple class periods and facilitate lessons using Saga Connect and/or platforms provided by the district. Federal Work Study Math Tutors will implement math curriculum to foster academic success and help students reach their goals. In addition to offering academic support, tutors will act as advocates and mentors, building strong, meaningful relationships with their students. Some of the key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Provide math tutoring to your assigned caseload of students for multiple class periods, utilizing Saga Connect and/or platforms utilized by the school district
  • Prepare for tutoring sessions using Saga Curriculum and/or curriculum resources provided by the school/district
  • Navigate varying technology, both hardware and software, and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise
  • Proactively check and respond to emails to meet necessary deliverables on time

Qualifications

  • You must be a student at CUNY
  • You must be eligible for the Federal Work-study program
  • You are age 18 or over with a high school diploma, GED, or above
  • You must clear Background Screening and all other security requirements set forth by Saga Education and the school district before the start of training; district dependent
  • Demonstrated time management and self-starter abilities 
  • Access to your own personal and reliable high-speed internet to effectively engage in video conferencing, required
  • Access to your own computer technology with audio and visual capability, required
  • Access to a quiet workspace to effectively engage in tutoring, required
  • On-camera presence is required during tutoring sessions and other activities necessary to fulfill the essential functions of this position
