The Citadel Math Lab is seeking reliable and enthusiastic Professional Math Tutor to provide academic support to students in a collaborative learning environment. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about mathematics, communicate effectively, and enjoy helping students build confidence and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of college-level mathematics.
  • Be punctual, dependable, and professional.
  • Communicate mathematical concepts clearly to students with varying skill levels.
  • Be comfortable using student-centered and differentiated instructional strategies.

Applicants selected for an interview will be asked to provide:

Schedule

Math Lab operating hours are:

  • Monday-Thursday
    • Morning: Beginning as early as 9:00 a.m. (flexible based on tutor availability)
    • Afternoon: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
    • Evening: 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Current hiring needs are primarily for morning and afternoon availability.

Required Subject Knowledge

Applicants should be proficient in tutoring:

Preferred Qualifications 

Experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • Calculus II or higher
  • Physics or Engineering coursework
  • Financial Mathematics
  • Microsoft Excel

Training

New tutors will participate in training to become familiar with Math Lab procedures, tutoring expectations, and student support resources.

Tutor Responsibilities

Professional Math Tutors are expected to:

  • Welcome students and check them in for their scheduled appointments.
  • Provide individualized, student-centered academic support tailored to each student's learning needs.
  • Encourage students to develop problem-solving skills rather than simply providing answers.
  • Complete a tutoring session report following each appointment.
  • Encourage students to complete the Math Lab exit survey at the conclusion of each session.
  • Record student no-shows when applicable.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
  • During afternoon hours, comfortably manage multiple students simultaneously (up to four students at one time) and, when appropriate, facilitate small-group tutoring sessions.

The ideal tutor is knowledgeable, patient, dependable, and committed to helping students achieve academic success while fostering confidence and independent learning.
