General Description
The Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) at SUNY Niagara is seeking individuals who are passionate about supporting student success through tutoring. Professional Tutors provide both individual and small group assistance aligned with existing course content, helping a diverse student population strengthen their academic skills and confidence.
In this role, tutors serve as a vital link between the college and its students-supporting academic progress while fostering independent learning and self-reliance. Tutors assist students in developing competency in course material and applying effective learning strategies such as active reading, note-taking, test preparation, time management, and organization.
In addition to traditional tutoring, Professional Tutors may serve as embedded tutors within the classroom, work with students in specific content areas, and provide online tutoring for those enrolled in distance education courses. Tutors are expected to offer support in a professional, welcoming, and student-centered manner to all members of the campus community
Professional Tutors formathematics are expected to assist students in most or all of the following content areas:
  • Analytic Geometry
  • Contemporary Math
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Foundational, Intermediate, & Advanced Algebra & Trigonometry
  • Math for Childhood Education
  • Mathematics for Consumers
  • Pre-Calculus, Calculus, & Applied Calculus
  • Statistics

Final candidates may be asked to meet with math faculty members to ensure an appropriate knowledge base for supporting course content.
The rate of pay is based on the level of education the candidate possesses. For a Bachelor's degree or lower the rate of pay will be $21.86 per hour. For a Master's degree or higher the rate of pay will be $24.04 per hour.
Tutoring hours can occur Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 7:00pm. This is an in-person position. Please provide your availability within your cover letter. This position should expect hours consistent with the Fall & Spring semesters; limited Winter/Summer semester hours may be available based upon course offerings.

  • Creating academic resources/guides for student use
  • Maintaining records of tutoring appointments
  • Utilizing tutoring management system to create, log, and detail appointments
  • Referring students to appropriate resources
  • Supporting learning and study skills development
  • Assisting students with general computer troubleshooting necessary for coursework
  • Providing embedded tutoring services, as assigned

Essential Functions
Tutoring includes, but is not limited to, reviewing class materials, writing assistance, discussing text, or working on solutions to problems within the designated content area. Tutoring is designed as a supplement to regular classroom instruction so Tutors must be knowledgeable about the content of specific subjects to assist students in increasing their academic skills and understanding.
