Job Description Summary
Assist students learn mathematics, and learn to use technology that supports the learning of mathematics in the Mathematics Learning Center. Responsible for maintaining an effective mathematics learning and supportive environment within the center.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. 12 to 18 months related experience or course work/certification.
  3. Minimum of two college mathematics courses at an accredited college or university with a grade of "A" or "B" starting at College Algebra or higher. Experience with the use of TI-83/83+/84/84+ graphing calculators, computers, and web-based instructional support materials and software.

Criteria
CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Candidates for this position who are invited for an interview will be asked to demonstrate their tutoring effectiveness in a simulated pedagogical situation. In addition to the criteria listed below, other information gained from and observations made during the interview process, including the review committee's assessment of a simulated tutoring performance, may be considered in the selection process.
  • Assists and tutors individual and small groups of students learn mathematics in the MLC
  • Assists and tutors individual and small groups of students learn to use graphing calculators, computers and web-based instructional support materials and software to support mathematics learning in the MLC
  • Assists the manager by participating in the delivery of mathematical workshops for students in the MLC
  • Assists the manager in maintaining a safe, secure, and organized learning environment within the MLC during specified hours
  • Assists the manager in maintaining rules, policies, and procedures of the MLC during specified hours
  • Supports an attractive, clean, and functional learning environment in the MLC
  • Responsible for holding keys to the classroom and lab, and opening/closing MLC to students, faculty, and staff
  • Works Collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff of the Division of the Library & Learning Resources, the Division of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and the Department of Mathematics
  • Sensitive to the needs of a culturally diverse community and student body and sensitive to the needs of students requesting assistance
  • Responsible for for complying with all college required mandated training within the prescribed timeline
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Job Requirements
  1. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate in spoken and written Standard English.
  3. Must be responsible and dependable.
  4. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U. S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
