Job Summary
Math tutors support student learning and success by helping students strengthen their understanding of course content, build academic confidence, and develop effective study skills. In addition to providing one-on-one and small-group tutoring, the math tutor also serves as an embedded tutor in assigned classes, offering in-class support, encouraging student engagement, and helping connect course instruction with tutoring services.
Job Duties:
This position reports to the Tutor Coordinator and provides tutoring support through the Learning Commons. Math tutors meet with students one-on-one or in small groups in person or virtually, and also work as embedded tutors in assigned math classes. Embedded tutoring responsibilities may include attending class sessions, assisting students during class activities, collaborating with instructors, and helping reinforce course material outside of class. Additional responsibilities include attending trainings, logging tutoring appointments in Starfish, maintaining communication with staff, participating in program feedback and meetings, and completing weekly outreach and intervention efforts to support student engagement and success.
Minimum Qualifications:
โ€ข Required: Grade of an A or B in College Algebra & Trigonometry
โ€ข Successful completion of 12+ college credits at an accredited college.
โ€ข Overall college GPA 3.0 or above.
Preferred Qualifications:
โ€ข Working towards an associate or bachelor's degree
โ€ข Successful completion of 12+ credits of SKYCTC college courses.
โ€ข Two professional references, at least one of whom is a faculty member who teaches math or science at SKYCTC.
โ€ข Grade of A or B in additional math courses (Examples: Calculus I or Statistics)
โ€ข Ability to tutor in additional subjects such as CIT, accounting, writing, chemistry, or physics is preferred.
