The City of Sterling Heights is seeking a committed and task-oriented Parks Maintenance Mechanic to join our Parks & Recreation team!

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Superintendent, the Parks Maintenance Mechanic is tasked with duties that maintain a safe and attractive park system. The employee may be required to assist the Park Superintendent in the performance of his duties. The Parks Maintenance Mechanic is authorized to assign duties to all part-time park staff. The Parks and Recreation Division prides itself on maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming parks for residents and visitors while providing high-quality services that enhance the community's quality of life. This position plays an important role in ensuring athletic fields, park amenities, and recreational spaces are properly maintained and safe for public use. Responsibilities include maintaining and lining athletic fields and inspecting playgrounds, park equipment, and other amenities. The Park Maintenance Mechanic may also operate landscaping and snow removal equipment, perform preventive maintenance and repairs on tools and mechanical systems, support departmental special events, and respond to emergency maintenance needs after hours as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in a municipal parks and recreation setting with a minimum of 1 year of park maintenance and repair.
  • Working knowledge of landscaping, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry trades.
  • Valid unrestricted Michigan Driver's License with a good driving record.
  • MDARD Certified Pesticide Applicator or ability to acquire within 6 months.
