Job Description
Title: Special Education Bus Monitor/Aide
SUMMARY:
Assist school bus driver in maintaining order while bus is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
โ€ข Assist the bus driver in maintaining order on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation.
โ€ข Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and completing route surveys
โ€ข Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured as required
โ€ข Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students
โ€ข Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriate
โ€ข Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures
โ€ข Assist handicapped children on and off the bus; lift children as required; assure responsible adult meets students leaving the bus
โ€ข Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned
โ€ข Maintain regular attendance
QUALIFICATIONS:
โ€ข Ability to maintain proper records and documentation
โ€ข Assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required, including the ability to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs)
โ€ข Understand and relate to children with special needs
โ€ข Lift students according to established guidelines
โ€ข Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
โ€ข Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Pay rate is $18.55 per hour
