Position: Special Education Bus Monitor/Aide

Department: Transportation

FTE: Part-time (hours TBD)

Pay rate is $20.50 per hour

Job Description

Title: Special Education Bus Monitor/Aide

SUMMARY:

Assist school bus driver in maintaining order while bus is in operation; maintain proper records and documentation; assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist the bus driver in maintaining order on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and completing route surveys

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured as required

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriate

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist handicapped children on and off the bus; lift children as required; assure responsible adult meets students leaving the bus

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Perform other duties as assigned

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain regular attendance

QUALIFICATIONS:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Ability to maintain proper records and documentation

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required, including the ability to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs)

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Understand and relate to children with special needs

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Lift students according to established guidelines

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
